Goodbye Biology! A challenge to biocentric view of the universe

(From a chapter Goodbye Biology of author's book Self-Designed Universe)

First a note for understanding the background to the coinage of the new word 'Mosc' as used by him in the book as well as here and its meaning:

In an effort to explain the coinage of the word Mosc, in a foreword to the first draft of his book then tentatively named An Iota of Truth (1995) the author wrote:

Lenin once said, "We materialists take matter as a philosophical category." That was in fact to incorporate in their materialistic interpretation of the so-called 'objective' world the field concept of the quantum theory. The days are perhaps coming when going yet deeper into 'matter' we shall not find even fields. To that potent void of the ancients, to that true 'vacuum' I shall give the name of "Matter of spiritual category" or M.O.S.C or simply, Mosc.

This will, of course, take care of the understandings and urges of all the three main segments of society i.e.,scientists, philosophers and mystics. For, while people of spiritual bent of mind can obviously take it as Spirit, Soul or even God, people of scientific bent can take it as Matter of supersymmetric category or simply Supersymmetry; and likewise, people of philosophical bent of mind can take it as Matter of substantial category or simply Substance.

Obviously it was author's challenge to the solely objective view of the world prevailing then. Of course it was further followed by an end note which said:

Lest some people say that by coining the word as 'Matter' of spiritual category the author is giving more importance to Matter over Spirit he must add that what is is One, comprising of an indescribable conglomerate of both Matter and Spirit, call it Matter of spiritual category or Spirit of material category or simply One doesn't make any difference to this essentially indescribable 'Something.'

(Reminds one of Tao-Te-Ching's lines:
"He that is free from selfish desires shall behold it in the spirit;
He that is possessed by passions, in the outward form alone,
And those two are one in substance, though differing in names..." - author's comment now)

Now please take your pick of this One called Mosc here according to your persuasion and read further (Notes in blue are written by the author now):

Chapter 13
GOODBYE BIOLOGY!
==========================================================
Evolution is something that happens, willy-nilly, inspite of the efforts of the replicators (and
nowadays of the genes) to prevent it happening.--- Richard Dawkins

Survival for what? Is survival a value? What kind of survival? --- Arthur Peacocke
==========================================================

(First a note on quotations: Note even present great authority on evolution Richard Dawkins noted that evolution happens willy-nilly despite genes' efforts to prevent it from happening. Which followed to its logical end means despite us human beings efforts to prevent it happening. As indeed author thinks what whole Darwinism explains. And yet we think the universe is a biocentric universe? What is that which makes evolution happen despite us? Of course not some human God out there but then what? Action part of Newtonian action, reactions starting from big bang and applied to all four basic forces or interactions and at myriad of small to big spiral levels of which then Darwinism explains the reaction part when things come to biological levels.)

Now the original writing:

From Universe to Earth and within: The last two chapters were too abstract one, too remote even for our imagination. In my enthusiasm to deal with the Universe as a whole I knew I was neglecting some finer details of the process of evolution here on Earth, which most of the readers would have found far more interesting. No doubt the subject of the origin and evolution of the Universe in its own right is a hot one in these days, but the subject of evolution nearer home is hardly of lesser importance.

So in this chapter we would endeavor to provide those details of the process of evolution only on Earth. But as already explained in the previous chapters, it must always be kept in mind that whether we take Universe as a system, Earth as a system, or any other system down the line such as our global culture since the beginning of the AD era, our science as a system within this global culture, down to our individual lives or even deeper beyond, every system though remaining a part of its parent system, on its own begins from Mosc - Matter of spiritual category - and goes through four fundamental forces or interactions, of course, as to the extent they are applicable to that level, to finally again merge into Mosc, displaying in the process all of its evolution.

It is with this background in mind that we would explain the origin and evolution of the species and, in fact, of many other systems down the line on our planet Earth in somewhat more detail.

On the face of these explanations, all our explanations from this side of the phenomenon, from the side of duality so to say (obviously from the side of Darwinsim) would prove pretty deficient if not altogether meaningless .

For example, the phenomenon of evolution as hitherto explained, or from 'this side' so to say, in its most simplified form may be summed up as:

Reductionism of Darwinists: Evolution feeds on our survival instinct; survival feeds on natural selection; natural selection feeds on variations; variations feed on ‘mistakes’ in replication basically in genes. On what these mistakes in replication ultimately in genes also called mutations feed is anybody’s guess. Here as of now the downward line ends. Here as of now the so-called reductionists throw in the towel crying over the shoulders of chance (A bit like God of ignorant people of yore here science takes help of its own God, chance. Or it says mutations happen because of mistakes in replication in genes. Isn't it funny, like ignorant people of yore? Where you are unable to explain for now leave it to chance or to mistakes not that we yet do not know!)

Immature holism of counter-party: Here, in a way, the downward line takes a U-turn in favor of the so-called immature holists: Replications and even mutations in genes feed on instructions from bigger molecules called DNAs or molecules of life; DNAs feed on the directions from  ultimately the whole chromosome; which feeds on the directions from ultimately the whole system; which feeds on directions from ultimately the process of evolution on the Universal scale. What the process of evolution ultimately on the Universal scale feeds on is again anybody’s guess. Here as of now the upward line ends. Here as of now the so-called holists bolt, though still playing with their numbers and equations. Or with various types of (immature) mysticism.

Shredding the first: Now taking the first paragraph first, evolution cannot solely depend upon our survival instinct, for if survival was to be considered the sole criterion, minerals need never have evolved to become plants, nor plants to become animals and so on. Moreover, it does not explain death-wish in human beings or the process of disorganization going on along with organization in crystals as renowned mineralogist Cairns Smith says as quoted in the first chapter - and which, in fact, is all-inclusive, is omnipresent.

Survivial for what? The role of survival must only be partially true, and that too - it is obvious - for some wider purpose. In fact, for our Mosc’s ultimate disentanglement from all the basic forces going by our theory being presented here. (Richard dawkins please note. Ultimate it is not the gene but the soul which is selfish to be free.)

Natural selection, yes but: The idea of natural selection is as well superficial. What selection have I in my growth? From childhood to youth to middle age etc.; from cave man to nomadic man to settled man etc.; from minerals to plants to animals to man etc.? And so on?

I do not grow or evolve through selection, rather I select according to my growth, according to the status of my growth, according to the ladder of the evolutionary double-helix staircase relevant to the present level of my life on which I presently am.

I do not grow through selection but in reaction to four fundamental forces one after the other, at one level or the other, at my deepest. Selection superficially may seem to be there, but it all is the forced selection. Read on:

I ‘selected’ the weaker legs as a man than the animals or as an animal than the plants , basically not because of any other reason but because now the force of gravity is far from my mind and I can handle that with this much of strength in my legs.

Similarly, I selected my arms different from the animals or in the way I now have, basically not for any other purpose but because whereas as an animal I had to keep gravity in mind to a considerable extent besides the electromagnetic forces, now I have to keep comparatively more in focus only the attractions and repulsions of electromagnetic forces acting on me: I can embrace something I am attracted to or I can repel something I feel repulsive.

I did not select the language as a Homo sapiens over the animals basically because it would enhance my chances of survival, but because as a Homo sapiens I was the product or the ‘phenotype’ of strong interactions at my base, which put ‘me’ (my part of Mosc) into a nucleons-walled prison, in reaction to which, to communicate across which, I had to invent it (details already given in the chapter on forces).

Moreover, we all are part of the Universe which one way or the other began with a great explosion - much like a bullet fired from a gun. How much chances of selection one could attribute to the ‘things’which thus began with an explosion? Would the material of the bullet fired from a gun have any substantial chances of selection?

Like survival, selection must have some associative role only, which we would explain at its due place somewhere further.

The ridiculousness of assumption of variations by mistakes: Similarly, no variation is through chance, through chance mistakes during replication in genes (in fact, attributing the variations phenomenon to ‘chance’ or ‘mistakes’ by the scientists is not very much different from the ignorant people in the far past attributing various natural happenings to gods). It is because of four basic interactions at myriad of system levels - at the level of genes in the above case. It is because of any system’s quantum jumping - quantum jumping of its ‘I’or Mosc -from one force threshold, from one interaction threshold, to the next as I have already explained.

Throwing out in the process so-called mutations from that core outwards (Even Nobel physicist Erwin Shrodinger has averred this much in his book What is Life? - that quantum jumps play an important part in our evolution and mutations could be because of them).

Whole world maimed by the memes but wrongly: I can best illustrate this by what Richard Dawkins speculatively says about ‘memes’ - our ideas as new replicators analogous to our genes. According to Dawkins our so-called ‘memes’ replicate and mutate in the same way as genes. Are all our ideas, inventions, discoveries the results of only chance mistakes in their being carried over from one place to another down through the decades, the centuries, or they represent our growth? Obviously they represent our, our culture’s growth. (Even the Freudian slips are basically because of our underlying desires, which further owe themselves ultimately to our basic desire to rise against all the basic forces one way or the other, at one level or the other as we grow as I have explained in some earlier chapter.

What those who have really gone deeper say: Moreover, remember what J. Bronowski said as quoted earlier, regarding ‘ideas discovering man rather than the other way about...'?) (Again note, every thinker who has gone really deeper into things has felt that there is something from beyond us humans which takes the first step. Even Einstein meant the same when he said, "The most beautiful and most profound emotion we can experience is the sensation of the mystical. It is the sower of all true science...")

Similarly, the mutations in genes, and the consequential variations in them represent a gene’s, a cell’s growth, its evolution subjected to the four basic interactions, and are far from chance mistakes during replications.

Our examples given in the case of natural selection also serve to further support this point. The formation of our legs, our arms, the development of our language, are not the result of chance mistakes in the replications in our genes or ultimately in us. They are the result of the fundamental interactions.

Thus not only these reductionist explanations are superficial and inadequate on the whole as explained above, they are inconclusive as well. Via ‘chance’ they ultimately lead us to the unknown territory, which though we have already identified first with our Movc - Matter of virtual category and then ultimately with our Mosc - Matter of spiritual category.

Local holism: Similarly, holistic explanations are inadequate and inconclusive. Nobody knows what instructions and how, DNA gives to the genes or chromosome gives to the DNA or the system as a whole gives to the chromosome. Moreover, the holists as well take us - may be through their never-ending fractions of the smallest unit of time, may be through their never-ending fractions of the smallest unit of length or what you have, may be through their never-ending jugglery in equation-making, may be directly through the wide variety of immature mysticism - ultimately to our Mosc.

So all the explanations concerning evolution from this side are not only inadequate, they also take us ultimately to the same realm i.e. Mosc, from which we already intend to begin our story of the origin and evolution of species - and in fact of many other systems down the line - on our planet Earth. With the help of four basic forces or interactions of course.

Same story from mineral to man and beyond: I had read some time back in a newspaper that some geophysicists have found a giant asymmetric crystal at the heart of the Earth. And it was no news for me. Lewis Thomas has already likened our Earth to a cell. And Nobel Physicist Erwin Schrodinger had even before that opined in his book What is life? that the most essential part of a living cell may suitably be called an aperiodic crystal. Biochemist Cairns Smith in his book Seven Clues to the Origin of Life has also speculated about life to have originated through the agency of inorganic crystals. I would not be surprised if some cosmologist some day comes up with the idea that at the heart of the Universe too there formed at first a giant aperiodic crystal. Or any system-theorist some day comes up with the idea that at the heart of every system there at first develops an aperiodic crystalline formation, if not actually may be only theoretically or even symbolically. For each system for us begins ultimately from the same origins, goes through the same basic interactions albeit modified to their levels, and must of necessity form the related structure to all else.

We have not the background to begin from the very beginning of the formation of our planet Earth, but if we could do so, I am sure we could have explained the whole of its development from that time up to the present in terms of the fundamental forces or interactions. But now we would have to restrict ourselves only to what is quite on the surface. Yet this would adequately serve our purpose as I would show below.

First of all we would begin from minerals onwards to explain the origin and evolution of the species plants, animals, man etc.

Then, in the next chapter, we would confine ourselves only to the developments concerning man and those too within the last about fifty thousand years or so - just when he began his new cultural spiral within what is called the third Ice Age.

A simple bird's eye view of whole evolution in terms of four basic interactions: A prior bird’s eye view of the whole sweep of evolution as outlined above and in terms of the basic interactions, may be had by merely classifying the special characteristics of the ‘phenotypes’ of each type of interactions, that is, what special characteristics phenotypes of each type of interactions would develop as they evolve through them, and then applying them to the system under question as follows.

Classification of Interactions: We shall classify the four fundamental interactions in our own way as:

1. Mosc’s disentanglement from inertia, from the previous system and entanglement into gravity on its own, or as a new system, to be called gravitational interactions.

2. Mosc’s disentanglement from gravity and further entanglement into electromagnetic forces, to be called electromagnetic interactions.

3. Mosc’s disentanglement from  electromagnetic forces and further entanglement into strong forces, to be called strong interactions.

4. Mosc’s disentanglement from strong forces and further entanglement into weak forces, to be called weak interactions.

And would provide the special characteristics to their phenotypes - to the systems to be produced thanks to them as already explained - with their brief application to various systems as:

Characteristics and Application:

1A. Mosc’s disentanglement from inertia, from the previous system and entanglement into gravity on its own or as a part of the new system - or gravitational interactions: The system, the phenotype distinguishes itself from its ‘ground,’ from its mother system, from its parentage, though yet embedded in it in a way. In a nutshell, the system distinguishes itself from its ground (or takes birth).

At the species level, these interactions as already explained somewhere back gave us the ‘species’ of clay to minerals - from the ground of the sun. Further within, at the level of species man, these gave us apes to cave man - from the ground of plants and animals. At our present global cultural level, these gave us dark to middle ages - from the ground of dark ages. At the level of science as a system these gave us the science of inertia of Galileo to gravity of Newton - from the ground of religion. At our personal levels these interactions give us our babyhood to childhood - the ‘ground’ here being our mother. At cells’ level these give us our bone and marrow cells - from the ground of stem cells. At genes’ level these interactions push us to its first nucleotide base.

2A. Mosc’s disentanglement from gravity but further entanglement into electromagnetic forces, or, electromagnetic interactions: The system ‘raises itself, even cuts itself off’ from its ground, experiences attractions and repulsions of the electromagnetic forces, is forced to move, is forced to fall into loves and wars. In a word, the system leaves its ‘ground’ and moves.

At the species level, these interactions gave us the species of plants and animals. Further within, at the level of species man, these gave us the nomadic man. At the present global cultural level, these gave us the age of romanticism - also known as the bhagati age in the east. Perhaps also the age of great travels, loves and wars if any historian were to go deeper into it. At science as a system level, these gave us the science of electromagnetism of Faraday and Maxwell. At our personal levels, these interactions give us our youth. At cells’ level these give us our blood and muscle cells. (Blood and muscle cells in our bodies do the same function which plants and animals do outside for the system Earth so to say: blood cells and plants have something to do with air for breathing purpose; and muscle cells and animals have something to do with movement). At genes’ level these interactions push us to its second nucleotide base.

3A. Mosc’s disentanglement from electromagnetic forces and further entanglement into strong forces, or, strong interactions: System experiences confinement (or boundary) at the base, tends to settle down, makes efforts to off-set the effects of confinement through development of language, communication skills, knowledge etc. In a nutshell, settlement, intellectual activity, coupled with great anxiety.

At the species level, these interactions gave us the species of primates to man. At the level of species man, these gave us the settled man. At global cultural level beginning with the AD era, these gave us the age of reason, of anxiety. At the level of science as a system, these gave us our nuclear and virtual reality sciences. At our personal levels these interactions give us our middle-age. At the level of cells these give us our nerve cells. At the level of gene as a system, these push us to its third nucleotide base.

4A. Mosc’s disentanglement from strong forces and further entanglement into weak forces, or, weak interactions: Experience of freedom, tendency ‘to be’ rather than ‘to know,’ tendency to live peacefully and within one’s means and let others live. In a nutshell, to be, to live and let live. (Recognize our coming times here.)

At the species level, these interactions may someday give us the species of superman. Lower down, within the species man, these will give us perhaps to whom historians some day would call the free man. At our global cultural level these are going to give us our age of intelligence, of intuition, of freedom (in a way we are already into it though at some intermediate cycle level). It may also be known variously as the golden age, the age of wisdom, the satya yuga.

At our personal levels these interactions, I am sorry to say, give us what we know as our cancer cells. (Having freed themselves from almost all the forces, these cancer cells do not obey the genetic code of a system which veritably is the command of the forces at the base. Since after due time a system begins the next spiral, though qualitatively higher, and restarts its journey through the forces, it can explain what in scientific circles has been called the phenomenon of the Spontaneous Cancer Remission - SCR. Cells in such a scenario, after having once freed themselves from even the weak forces or interactions, again begin to obey the directions of gravity, and that would mean the directions of the genetic code.)

And finally, at the level of genes these interactions push us to its fourth and final nucleotide base, final so far as the spiral under discussion is concerned.
